elements and Principles of art Trading Cards
Near the end of the semester, 6th grade students will take a test over basic concepts we have covered. To help you review, you will construct a set of trading cards with key terms, definitions, and illustrations of the elements and key principles of art.
illustrating the elements of art
As we review each element of art, write the definition and draw an illustration on each of your cards. Choose an image to use as a tracer or create your own. Each element of art is required to have 2 examples of that object. As a class, we will look at examples of art using each element as a review. One example for each of the elements of art is shown on the board as a reference as students work.
illustrating principles of art
When the 7 elements of art are glued in the book, there are 2 pages left in the spine, and 3 loose pieces of paper in the pocket. Students used shapes to illustrate the following principles of art: Balance, Emphasis, Movement, Unity, and Variety.
Before setting to work, we review artworks that use each of these principles. The following examples are left on the board during class sessions.

finishing touches
After checking to make sure you have completed all of the trading cards, cut out and glue a pocket to hold all of your cards. Draw your initials on the back of each card using block or bubble letters so they won't get mixed up. Put your name on the outside of your pocket and create a design.
